A team of Lexington U11 soccer players sponsored by Tower Hill Sports won its division in the Disney 3v3 Soccer Championships at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., Monday morning.
Coached by Michelle Rayner, a Lexington F.C. and former University of Kentucky women’s soccer coach, the CR7 team of James Clay, Jose Flores, Joshua Guillen, Sam Shapiro, Lawson Shrensker and Drew Ballesteros won on an overtime golden goal over Barca Goldenjets Elite (Va.) in the semifinals, 6-5, and then routed its finals opponent Mini Manchester (Fla.) 8-2 in the title game both on Monday morning.
The event is the culmination of affiliated 3v3 events held around the country and featured seven teams from six states in the Boys U11 Invitational.
CR7 entered the semis as the fourth seed after dropping the opening game of the tournament to the team it would eventually beat in the finals.
