New boys coaches at Douglass, East Jessamine

Frederick Douglass High School, the new school being built on Winchester Road in Lexington, announced the hiring of its first coaches for the boys’ soccer team.

Omar Shalash, a Lexington native and Tates Creek and Georgetown College graduate, has been named head coach, while Sam Brooks, a native of Solihull, England and a former starter at University of Kentucky, has been named associate head coach.

Shalash has coached at Commonwealth Soccer Club and coached and played under Tates Creek coaching legend Bo Lankster. He is currently a social studies teacher at Edythe J. Hayes Middle School.

Brooks has played and coached professionally in England since his graduation from UK in 2012 an has coached for Bluegrass S.C. in Versailles.

On Wednesday, East Jessamine High School announced the hiring of Kyle Blair as their boys’ soccer head coach. Blair served as the junior varsity coach last season. Blair, a native of Nicholasville, played for West Jessamine High School and Asbury University.
